Alex Birchall

I am 20 years old and I currently live in Manchester. I am in my third and final year at Cambridge University (Pembroke College), where I am studying Natural Sciences.

I first started playing bridge when I was 11 and went to lessons for juniors at the Manchester Bridge Club. I then joined the girls’ squad and went on to play in the Junior European Pairs in Opatija and the Channel Trophy in 2010 with Laura Bonney. My regular partner now is Laura Covill, and I will be playing with her in the Channel Trophy this year. Playing with Laura is always very enjoyable, especially because she is excellent at providing cake, which is very welcome at long bridge events.

Apart from bridge, I enjoy choir, horse riding and playing the piano. In the future, I hope to find some sort of job after graduating (probably not a scientific one), and continue to improve at bridge.
