Harold Chope

"Mr R H Chope (Harold) came to Bournemouth, on retirement, in the late 1950s after a long and active association with Yorkshire CBA. He was Chairman of Southern Counties Contract Bridge Association during the sixties and a delegate to the EBU Council for almost twenty years. His forte was the conduct, direction and control ofcounty competitions. From 1962 until 1980 there was no county event with which he, with his wife, was not involved either as director or scorer, and was responsible for the successful staging of the only Camrose intemational match to be played in Bournemouth. He has been a source of sound advice and encouragement to those who have shown an interest in tournament directing, the high standards achieved in this field in county competitions owing much to the assistance and guidance he has given over a very long period. Now a widower he continues to support and encourage young players in the Bournemouth area."
