Nicole Cook

Hi
In December 2000, I moved to the UK from New Zealand, to meet a non-bridging playing Englishman. My first experience of bridge in England was at the Young Chelsea Club in London, and it became my home away from home.

I attended my first Club TD course in May 2006. Soon after, I approached my County to support me, and a month later I was directing my first County event! I have fallen in love with the organisational side of the game, and am lucky enough to be asked regularly to direct events in and around Essex, London, Kent, Bedfordshire and Middlesex. I became a member of the EBU Panel in 2010, which gives me a role in bringing successful events to players at the highest level of the game. As well, I look forward each year, to directing players to a great time at the Brighton Really Easy Congress and the Junior Teach-In.

My bridge highlights include being on the 2010 Lady Milne winning team with my wonderful partner Chris Duckworth, and a lowlight has to be missing out on playing for my home country on the final board, by one single solitary imp. The pain was especially deep as our players sat the same way for three boards of the final set – and the TD feeling a bit bad for not having checked, allowed three boards to be added in – my inspiration to become a good Director perhaps?
