Pip Della-Porta

d. 1985

We are all greatly saddened to hear that Pip Della-Porta has died. She was regarded as one of the perfect ladies at the bridge table and with her husband (who now does so much to help the organisation of the game at club and county level), they formed one of the rare married couples who played well together and never argued.

We would all like to remember her as she as the bridge table - good humoured, pleasant to partners and opponents alike.

She had been an active competitor in several fields - England and Britain for bridge, the semi-finals of the Women's Plate at Wimbledon and table tennis for England. She and Freddie celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary this June but already she had been suffering from Alzheimer's disease for some years with its attendant loss of memory and disorientation. A very sad loss and all our sympathies to Freddie.
