Richard O'Reilly

1949-1996

We are sad to report the death of Richard O'Reilly, who finally lost his battle against cancer on March 28. Richard was only 47 and although he had played little bridge in recent years, he will be remembered by many from his heyday in the '70s when he was a regular tournament player and stalwart of the Young Chelsea. He represented Ireland at junior level but his best results were achieved in partnership with Chris Duckworth. Together they won the Evening Standard teams and the Guardian pairs in 1974 and went on to obtain a bronze medal for Britain in the Junior Common Market Championships in Vittel in 1975. He leaves a widow Jill, daughter Ingrid, and stepdaughter Thea, to whom we extend our sympathies.
