If it’s sea, sunshine and bridge that takes your fancy then the Brighton Summer Meeting is a winner.

A full programme of bridge events will include many peripheral activities such as late-night speed ball and bridge seminars with experts in the morning. There will also be the popular Green Pointed midweek Seniors Congress. Whatever your standard, Brighton is a must for all bridge players.

The first weekend features the Swiss Pairs Championship for the Harold Poster Cup, a four-session event with a total of fourteen 8-board
matches. You can wind down on Sunday evening in an Open Pairs or Open Teams (free of charge for those playing on the first weekend).
Midweek there is a wide variety of competitions available, including a ‘Play with the Experts’ pairs, a Mixed Pivot Teams, and a Mixed Pairs (now all Green Point events).

During the afternoons there is the midweek knockout teams, or Open Pairs for those who prefer a more relaxing game of bridge.

The second weekend brings the second major event, the Swiss Teams.

After three sessions totalling ten 8-board matches, the leading eightteams contest the Four Stars ‘A’ final and the next eight the Four Stars ‘B’ final, both finals consisting of seven 8-board matches over two sessions. The remainder of the field play one further session with four 8- board matches for the Brighton Bowl. The Friday afternoon Open Pairs event is free of charge for those playing on the second weekend.

Throughout the ten days, the Brighton Focus, will also keep you entertained with news, views and lots of bridge.

Summer Meeting Seniors congress

To be eligible for a Seniors event, players must have their 60th birthday or beyond during the calendar year (January - December) of the event. For example, a player can play in a Seniors event at the age of 59 provided his/her 60th birthday falls later that year.
