COSTA TEGUISE & LANZAROTE

Costa TeguiseCosta Teguise, just 15 minutes from Arrecife Airport, is a well planned resort with an up market atmosphere and a good choice of shops, restaurants and tourist facilities.

Although it is a purpose built resort, Costa Teguise manages to have a nice community feel to it, with lots of little squares around which the bars and restaurants are located. The resort is more low key than some but still has plenty to do with a wide variety of shops and restaurants for all tastes and of course lovely beaches.

There are a variety of shops around the resort and in the La Cucharas Shopping Complex, selling all the usual tourist tat, as well as a few electrical duty-free stores. The busy Sunday market at Teguise is well worth a visit, selling a variety of locally produced goods from pottery to tablecloths along with the inevitable 'I've been to Lanzarote' t-shirts.

The golf courseGolfers will appreciate that it is only a 10 minute taxi drive to the nearest 18 hole golf course, placed next to an old volcano, surrounded by 3000 palm trees, cactus and beautiful views of the ocean.

The Church in TeguisePictured here is the parish church of Guadalupe is the oldest on the island. It was built by Maciot de Bethencourt, but was constantly renovated by additions like those that were added by families that paid to be buried in them. The renovations ended in 1884, but in 1909, it suffered from a fire and was rebuilt by the church faithful, maintaining and respecting the original structure of the building. El Convento de San Francisco is a construction from the C16, built by Argote de Molina. It belongs to the Franciscan Order and in it lie the bodies of the most important people of Lanzarote. In 1984, it was reformed and turned into the town art gallery displaying exhibitions of contemporary art.

Lanzarote is situated 80km off the west coast of Africa and enjoys a year round, 99% sunny climate with average temperatures of approximately 25 degrees centigrade 12 months a year.
