Clubs intending to run heats are requested to contact Peter at the EBU (click to email) as soon as possible with the details so that we can add you to the list of participating clubs.
A new format for 2012 featuring a vastly reduced entry fee for the club qualifying stage, and culminating in two national finals instead of one. The second final is open only to pairs with at most one Life Master (and no higher ranked players) in the partnership and no person in the top 60 of the Gold Point ranking list as published in January prior to the Regional finals.
The event starts with a qualifying round, organised locally with many
heats. No player may compete in more than one heat. Players need not
be EBU members in order to play in the club qualifying stage, but must
become members in order to proceed to the Regional Finals or beyond.
Any affiliated club or county association may run a heat but a club heat
may require the prior approval of the relevant County Association. National Green Points are awarded at all stages, including the initial
club qualifying stage.
Heat organisers may combine a National Pairs heat with a normal club
game, in which case qualification and Green Point awards apply in relation
to the number of pairs who declare in advance that they are competing
in the National Pairs and who pay the corresponding entry fee.
However, the preferred method is to arrange a special National Pairs qualifying section subject to a minimum of at least 3 full tables (6 pairs).
In either case, only single winner movements (i.e. Howell or arrowswitched
Mitchell type) must be used.

If necessary, a tie for the last qualifying place should be ‘split’ in
accordance with EBU regulations. The first reserves from within the
heat will be invited to the regional final in the event of a withdrawal from
that heat. However, there is an absolute maximum of one reserve pair
per heat. Organisers are not permitted to arrange section sizes so as to
qualify more than the above.
The Regional Finals are held on Sunday 18th March 2012, starting at 1.00pm and ending at approximately 8.30pm. There are five venues:
Bradford Bridge Club -Northern Regional Final
The number of pairs qualifying for the final from each of the Regional Finals will be in accordance with a scale designed to qualify 50 pairs overall into each of the two all-play-all finals. Pairs who qualify for both finals may elect to play in either, in which case the next pair in line on the vacated list will qualify for the relevant final.
Players need not be EBU members in order to play in the club qualifying stage, but must become members in order to proceed to the Regional Finals or beyond.
Fees are at the discretion of the heat organisers, who are required to remit £2 per competing pair to EBU. Table money of £40 per pair will be charged at the Regional Finals, and £90 per pair will also be charged at the National Final.
County or Club Secretaries should send entry fees and detailed results for their heat to the EBU Competitions Department as soon as possible after the heat, and in any event by 20 February 2012.
National Green Points are awarded at all stages, including the initial
club qualifying stage:
