PLEASE NOTE that this supercedes the regulations in the 2006/2007 EBU DiaryThe WBF/EBL are moving the definition of a Senior player from 55 years of age to 60 years of age, but are going to do so one year at a time. They are also going to say that having been born during the year in question is sufficient: this in order to avoid the situation that if the event's in July one is OK, but if it's in June one is not. The EBU is going to follow suit, but is not going to disenfranchise any players who already qualify as Seniors under current EBU definitions. Thus the new EBU rule will be that you must be born in or before 1951 in order to qualify as a Senior player. The effect of this rule will be to allow a few more months worth of Seniors into EBU Senior events; but then the rule will stay the same (born 1951 or before) for several more years to come, so there will be no more Senior players until the year 2012 when we finally reach the stage of having the rule that a Senior player is one who is or who becomes 60 years of age during the year of the tournament. Meanwhile, for international events, the WBF/EBL are already 2 years ahead of us. Their equivalent rule until the year 2010 will be born in or before 1949. |
