Confused about the difference ? So was I ! But it is quite simple really!
BFA teachers have been specially trained to use the BFA programme - the approved learn and play programme developed by EBU. All BFA teachers belong to EBUTA but the EBUTA list also includes many other teachers who have been teaching for many years and prefer to use their own teaching scheme.
If you specifically want a teacher who uses the BFA scheme then please contact John Pain at the EBU. If you just want a teacher and are not worried about whether he or she teach the approved EBU methods, but just want to learn bridge locally, then use the EBUTA list. Within the EBUTA teachers there are a number of Professional Members of EBUTA, which is the highest level of Membership. You can find additional information about some of the teachers from our Teachers pages, and there is also information on our Links page
The Professional EBUTA Teachers have a minimum of 5 years
teaching experience (of which at least 2 must be teaching
bridge).
They have attended at least one teacher training workshop or EBUTA Teachers' Jamboree, they have a proven track record of excellent teaching from their employers (or if teaching is all done privately - from the students themselves).
They also have a sound understanding of bidding and play - the emphasis is on sound not expert, evaluated by a written test of bridge knowledge and an oral examination.
They encourage their students to develop beyond the classroom (provided the students want to be developed!) by running duplicates, small tournaments, progressing towards club play - helping to set up clubs where nothing suitable exists.
They also have a working knowledge of the Laws of Duplicate Bridge and are expected to have attended at least the Club Director Essentials Course.
Finally they are prepared to be an essential part of the development of EBUTA by helping to run workshops and other training events, particpate in the assessment processes and act as mentors to other bridge teachers.
