I was born and bred in Yorkshire - Redcar (Redker please!) and went up to Sheffield University in the 60s where I was lucky enough to gain a 2:1 in Economics - lucky because I spent most of my time playing bridge, poker and drinking!. (Don't tell my 3 children this, please - or my 4 grandchildren!)
During my working life, I have held a series of senior posts and directorships, including PLC director of a large chemical group and chairman of many companies internationally. Latterly, I have been self-employed as a Strategic Adviser in the Water sector specialising in International Development and M&A.
As for my main hobby, I am now a Grand Master and think I am a pretty good player, apart from my bidding, declarer play and defence, which need a bit of tweaking.
My favourite partner is my wife Kath with whom I recently celebrated 42 years of happy marriage (apart from the odd bridge congress where my bidding, declarer play and defence let me down!)
I am now semi retired from business and accepted an invitation to join the Tournament committee some 5 years ago. I am now Chairman. I have also been on the Board for 3 years, where I am passionate about transparent corporate governance and excellent, optimum cost service delivery by the EBU.
I crossed the Pennines some years ago to live in Cheshire, where I enjoy walking, reading, playing bridge, poker and drinking - so some things never change!
