Pat Husband
Pat Husband died in August 2005 She took over from Rhoda Lederer to reshape the EBU Teachers' Association. She introduced the style of teacher assessment that is still in use today and she introduced the very first Teachers' Jamboree where over 100 bridge teachers came together for a weekend of instruction, lectures and a bit of time to play. Her teaching techniques, which included the use of the flannelgraph, Cooperative Discovery Learning (cards on the table) and many others, helped lift bridge teaching from a stuffy, blackboard based activity into a lively and enjoyable experience. Pat also added her name to several bridge books. She collaborated with Ron Klinger and Andrew Kambites to produce the very popular Basic Bridge guide to good Acol Bidding and Play which remains a standard beginners text. We send our deepest sympathy to her husband, Denys, son Simon and daughter Fiona.
