David Muller, Coach
2007 Junior Team

David MullerDave Muller, 52, from London, is the team coach. This is his second outing in that role, the first was for the 2004 Junior Europeans in Prague.

Dave has been playing bridge since the age of 15, so played many years himself as a junior. He worked in IT for 23 years for British Airways, but left to start a career in bridge, and is now working at a bridge club in North-West London, teaching and running duplicates.

During the time at British Airways time he took advantage of the company "perks" to travel the world playing bridge. He played several time in the American Nationals, once in Australia and has played all over Europe. He also enjoys travelling as a spectator to watch major Championships, and one of his favourite trips was to Bali in 1995, where he had a great holiday, which was made even better by the Great Britain Junior team winning the Gold medal that year.

Dave has been active in Junior bridge for a long time, he has occupied the post of Youth Officer for the London area for over 15 years. That role involves developing bridge in schools, organising local tournaments, teaching, and much more besides. He is known to his bridge friends as "Toukie". This was the name he picked up in his University days. It's a derivation of Toucan, as he was likened to Victor Mollo's "Timothy the Toucan" of whom Mollo said "owes his nickname to a long, red nose and a disconcerting trick of bouncing in his chair." I'm not quite sure how I acquired that name, he says, "I haven't got a long red nose, and the only bouncing I'll be doing will be in celebration when the team wins!"
