Susan, 24, first learnt to play bridge under the tutelage of her parents, Brian and Sheila, whilst attending Loughborough High School. With the encouragement of Mel and Megan Starkings her bridge quickly progressed from the occasional game at the school lunchtime bridge club to entering the junior trials with "some boy" from the school down the road. This "boy" was Duncan Happer who was to become Susan's good friend and bridge partner for the next 7 years.
After her junior international debut at the age of 14, Susan went on to represent Great Britain and England at junior level in many home internationals, Junior Channel Trophy teams and European Championships (Jesolo is to be her fourth).
Susan attended Oxford University to read physics where she managed to juggle her studies and bridge in order to continue with her love for other sports, especially athletics and korfball (which I am told is a game best described as a cross between basketball and netball). One of her fondest bridge moments to date was being part of the winning Portland Bowl team that went on to the World University Championships in a team alongside her brother Peter.
With the introduction of an U25 women's European Championships, Susan formed a successful partnership with the then relatively inexperienced Bryony Youngs. In 2005 they not only represented England in the U25 women's team, but also made their debut for England ladies playing in the victorious Lady Milne team. At this time Susan was also forming a new junior partnership with Dave Cropper, with whom she will be playing the 2007 Europeans.
Susan now resides in Coventry, working as a business manager for a company that markets and distributes products to the Veterinary and animal healthcare sectors.
