Daniel McIntosh

Daniel McIntosh “Dan Mac” is 18; he’s doing his A Levels at Cirencester College, studying Maths, ICT and History. Dan started playing bridge after a trip to Scotland when it rained, rained, and rained a bit more - and to escape boredom Dan’s uncle taught him MiniBridge. Upon returning south Dan learnt how to bid.

He first played for England in February 2007 in the Peggy Bayer with Rob Myers – which England won - then later that year he played in Amsterdam in the White House Tournament. He was also part of the team that attended the Channel Trophy in 2007 as well.

Nowadays Dan plays a lot of bridge in Gloucestershire, with a wide range of partners. Junior wise he enjoys playing with Adam Hickman, and is looking forward to the World Championships. It’s only a shame he’ll be playing a strong no trump!

Perhaps some of Dan’s best results have occurred when playing with Oxford Youth Officer, Chris Cooper, where he not only plays a weak no trump but a mini too! Dan tries to avoid any system talk where he has to spend more than 5 minutes discussing things, as he is a self proclaimed “simple soul”. He looks forward to the day when he can play Acol. One of Dan’s heroes is Under 20 Assistant Squad Manager, Alan Shillitoe, as he is also a dedicated supporter of Acol but doesn’t yet understand Alan’s obsession with Gerber.

Outside of the bridge world Dan likes reading, music, and sleeping. His ambitions include not getting up until 7pm on a weekday; getting through more than 5 pages of his calculator manual so he can use it; and playing a session of bridge where he spends more time thinking about the hands before he plays them. Luckily he has a long time to fulfil his ambitions.
