Daily Reports18 August : After fulltime of 96 deals of the final the scores between USA1 and Poland were tied on 194-194. An extra eight deals were played to split the tie and the USA won 209-194. Poland had to settle for the silver medal. The bronze medal went to Canada beating France 140-107 in the play-off. In the semifinals Poland beat France 172-116 and USA1 beat Canada 181-115. The England Junior team finished 13 th in the round robin that preceded the knockouts. 16 August : The semifinals of the World Junior teams is between Poland and France , and USA1 and Canada . Poland won the qualifying round robin and chose France . Poland has a 16 IMP start in today's semifinal, as does USA1 over Canada Eighteen nations competed, having qualified from the Zonal Championships. Reduced to five players by the illhealth of one, Andrew Woodcock acted as a reserve, replacing the others on a rotational basis to give them a rest. Only two matches were played on Friday; in the first England defeated New Zealand 18-12, folllowed by a loss to Israel, 12-18 to put them in 11th place overall. Saturday is a rest day with no matches. 11 August: The first match on Thursday was a narrow victory for the English team, beating China Hong Kong 16-14. Round 11 saw them beating Pakistan by 25-0 ... Pakistan have yet to win a match in the tournament; England are lying 10th after 11 matches. 10 August: After staging a good recovery on Tuesday, the English team suffered a setback in their first match on Wednesday, losing to Chinese Taipei 1-25; however they recovered their equilibrium well and went on to beat Egypt 21-9. They then lost 11-19 to Norway and slipped down the table to 15th place. France & Poland lead the field with 178 & 174 VPs respectively, with Canada in 3rd place after 8 matches. 9 August: In their first match yesterday, England lost 21-9 to Australia, but staged a good recovery beating USA 2 25-4 in their second match - the third match against Brazil was also a convincing win, 23-7, pulling the team back up the field and into 10th place. 8 August: The Youth Championships have got underway in Sydney, Australia. The English team had a bad start, losing their first two matchs 5-25 and 7-23 to France and Poland, both considered contenders for Medals.
