More advanced training is also provided for County Directors. We run a 1-day County TD Preparation Day in mid-May. This is for those who need some practice at the type of material that will be tested on the main weekend. It is also suitable for those who want a 'refresher day' but who do not intend to go any further. The main course continues to be run as a weekend residential event, once a year.

 

County TD Preparation Day

 

This one day course will be held at the EBU Headquarters in Aylesbury on Saturday 12th May 2012. We will use material from previous County courses to give people a flavour of harder book and judgement rulings. It will also cover use of the White Book (the TD Guide). There will be a limit of 12 places. Course fee £45. Bookings should be made through the Competitions Department in the usual way.

 

County Director's and County Refresher Courses

 

The PROVISIONAL date for 2012 is September 15/16. The event will be held at the Hilton Hotel

in Coventry.

The all inclusive price of £TBC per person includes all course fees; dinner, bed and breakfast on Saturday/Sunday; sandwich lunch on Sunday and a number of servings of tea and/or coffee.

 

All bookings are made through the EBU.

 

Courses are only open to qualified Club Directors or previously qualified County Directors.

 

The course starts on Saturday afternoon at 2pm, with other sessions on Saturday evening, Sunday morning and afternoon, finishing at 4pm.

The County Directors' course is for qualified Club Directors who will normally have at least one year's experience of directing and some experience of organising events at County level. The prime objective of the course is to assess candidate's experience to become fully qualified County Directors, based on their performance in the exercises therein.

 

To enrol on the course an endorsement from your County Association is preferred.

 

Participation is also a learning experience - those attending will; on completion of the course:

• Have answered a pre-course test on the Orange Book.
• Understand the role and responsibilities of a county director.
• Have a good understanding of the Laws and EBU Directives governing duplicate bridge.
• Able to deal confidently with common table situations.
• Have participated in an appeal.
• Have dealt with harder judgement rulings.
• Appreciate the changes in the Laws of Duplicate Bridge 2007.

 

The course is a mixture of table simulations, lecture and written assessment.

 

County Refresher training courses are also held once each year for qualified County Directors, at the same location and at the same time as the County course.

 

The County Refresher course is for those who have already attended and passed the County Course. The course content is identical to the County Course and participants will be 'unofficially marked' on the same scale so you can see how you have improved since you did the County Course.
