Garden Cities finalists decided

The Regional Finals of the Garden Cities Trophy, the EBU's inter-county championship for club teams-of-eight, took place on Saturday 10th May at four venues. The top two teams at each venue qualified to play in the National Finals.

Hurworth BC of North East, and Manchester BC of Manchester, qualified at the Northern Regional Final.
Coventry BC of Warwickshire, and Lincoln BC of Lincolnshire, qualified at the Midlands Regional Final.
Eastbourne BC of Sussex, and Chislehurst BC of Kent, qualified at the South-East Regional Final.
Worcester BC of Worcestershire, and Bath BC of Wiltshire, qualified at the South-West Regional Final.

The National Finals take place on 14th June.

Sinclair Triumphs at Spring Fours

Congratulations to the Sinclair team - Anita Sinclair, Andrew McIntosh, Zia Mahmood, Marion Michielsen, Sabine Auken and Roy Welland - who have won the 2014 Schapiro Spring Foursomes. The international team, featuring players from England, the USA, Germany and The Netherlands, overcame the number two seeds Allfrey in an epic final on a day that featured an exhausting 12 hours of play.

Earlier in the day Sinclair had defeated the number one seeded Italian Lavazza team, while in the other semi-final the previously undefeated Hinden team lost to Allfrey after they took up the option of playing an extra 8 boards. Mossop and Penfold teams win at Spring Fours event

At the Schapiro Spring Foursomes event, the winners of the Punchbowl event and Hamilton Cup were decided on Monday.

The Punchbowl event - a knockout competition for those eliminated in the early stages of the main Spring Foursomes event - was won by Sandra Penfold, Ed Jones, Kalin Karaivanov, Nevena Senior and Rumen Trendafilov.

The Hamilton Cup - a one-day Swiss Teams event - was won by David Mossop, Jason Hackett, Justin Hackett, Colin Simpson and David Price.

The final stages of the Schapiro Spring Foursomes, which begins on Friday 2nd May, will be shown on Bridge Base Online. You can watch some of the best English players, some international stars, and maybe some unexpected 'giant killers', compete for one of the most prestigious titles in English bridge when the final four rounds are shown live on Monday 5th and Tuesday 6th. The addition of coverage on Monday is new this year to enable you to see more of the one of strongest fields ever assembled for this competition - we hope you enjoy it.
