Club Management Focus: Spring 2012

Happier Players

by Trevor Ward

Still not stratifying any of your club sessions? I would urge all clubs to give it a try.

Stratification is very straightforward to implement, and your scoring software will take care of the hard work. A few minutes spent up-front by your TD or Scorer is all that is required to set the initial grouping of your members. This can be tweaked after a few sessions have been scored if you think there is an imbalance. It is best if you pick a session where you have a reasonable spread of abilities and then gauge the reaction of the players.

This is a worthwhile exercise for a club to perform for a number of reasons:-

  • It costs the club nothing to implement.
  • You will have happier players overall, as the same ones aren’t winning all the available master points, and this will create a better atmosphere in the club.
  • The club is providing its members with a simple, but very effective, method to achieve a more pleasant playing environment.

Still not tempted to give it a try?
