Welcome to the spring edition of Club Management Focus. I am sure that I will not be alone in feeling a little guilty sitting at the bridge table when warm, light evenings mean that I could be devoting more time to green fingered pursuits!
I wish to particularly draw your attention to 2 articles in this edition. The first concerns the new laws to be introduced in England on 1st August and I urge you all to watch Gordon Rainsford’s informative video concerning the changes. Richard Banbury, Business Manager of our sister charity EBED (English Bridge Education and Development), will be organising short courses to update TDs on the laws. Please refer to EBED’s website for details http://www.ebedcio.org.uk/td-training and contact Richard at richard@ebedcio.org.uk if you would like him to organise a course in your area.
I very much welcome the initiative of Oxfordshire CBA to engage with all bridge players in a Festival of Bridge described in Robert Procter’s article. I have several friends, as I’m sure do you, who enjoy playing bridge but who only play around the kitchen table or at charity events. Oxfordshire have arranged an exciting few days of social bridge to encourage these players and introduce them to the joys of duplicate Please do what you can to support this event and encourage non-member bridge players to attend. You never know – these players may be your clubs’ future committee members.
