Club Management Focus: Winter 2018

Welcome to the Winter edition of Club Management Focus - perhaps fitting as the Big Beast sweeps in from the East, and much of country is under snow!

Hopefully your club is already considering the issues raised by the General Data Protection Regulations which come into force on 25th May this year. There is a wealth of information on the EBU website to assist you. Gordon Rainsford, who is the EBU’s data protection officer as well as General Manager, is happy to help with any further questions.

I would also urge you to read the article on the SNOTTY initiative if you are interested in attracting new bridge players in your area. EBED’s new Fast Track Bridge course (teaching material to learn bridge in 24 hours) is proving to be an excellent marketing tool with many successful courses being run across the country including Lancashire, Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and Somerset. The SNOTTY initiative is an example of a group of local clubs working together with their County to offer both Fast Track courses and the essential progression from the classroom to the clubroom via practice play. If you are interested in pursuing a similar campaign, please do get in touch with me and I will be happy to assist.

The Autumn Overseas Congress in beautiful (and sunny!) Andalucia is to have the first overseas “Really Easy” event. It was hoped that the February Congress in Budapest would attract some less experienced newcomers to participate in an overseas congress but this proved not to be the case. I would be grateful if you would publicise this event amongst your suitable and keen club players. Everyone with an NGS of Jack and below is welcome.
