Holland and Mould shine at Scarborough Congress

John Holland and Alan Mould were the stand-out performers at the Scarborough Congress, winning both the Teams and Pairs event.

They teamed up with Bill Hirst and Jeremy Dhondy to win Friday's multiple teams event, finishing 8 imps ahead of the team of David Stevenson, Liz Commins, Iain Roberts and Alan Oddie. The team of Geoff Kenyon, Carole Kelly, Robin Jepson and Alan Brosgill were third.

In the 'B' final the team of Barry O'Connor, Piers Percival, Stuart Coggrave and Pam Coggrave won comfortably by 41 imps. The team of Steve Male, Marilyn Silverdale, Bob McKinnon and Cathy Ferguson was second.

John and Alan (pictured left and right) then won the three session Swiss Pairs event over the weekend. They finished on 181 VPs, six clear of John Hayton & Philip Clark. Giles Ip & Gabriel Ip were a further two VPs back in third.

The event began with a 'pre-congress' Pairs on Thursday evening which was won convincingly by Linda Smith & John Halliwell. They finished eight per cent clear of the field on 69.23%. Second placed Adrian Knight & Prue Knight, and third placed Tom Paske & Alistair Kent, also scored over 60%.
