The Championship Pairs is a two-day event – two qualifying rounds on Friday, and an ‘A’ and a ‘B’ final on Saturday, each comprising two sessions. Those who qualify for the main semi-final of the Championship Pairs carry forward their first session score. There is be no carry-forward to the secondary semi-final, and it is possible to qualify for the final from either semi-final. The majority of pairs qualifying for either final will have done so by being in the top 60% of the first qualifying session, and then having a sufficiently good combined score in the two qualifying sessions. However, a smaller number of pairs can qualify for either final directly from the secondary qualifier in session two, whether because they only joined the congress on Friday evening, or because they failed to reach the main qualifier in session two.
The Swiss Pairs Championship is a two session event, with a total of nine 6-board matches and is open to pairs eliminated from the Championship Pairs at the end of Friday evening, and to players joining the congress on Saturday.
The Swiss Teams comprises seven 7-board matches with a short break after three matches.
Please note: The WBF - and consequently the EBL and Bridge Great Britain - have adjusted their criteria for eligibility for Seniors events, and this will come in to effect in 2018. As this was done at short notice, however, the EBU will not be making any changes to the criteria for entry to its senior congresses until 2019 (changes to trial events will be made in 2018). The current criteria therefore still apply for this event and players must have their 60th birthday or beyond during the calendar year (January-December) of the event - i.e. entrants must be born in 1957 or earlier.
