Gardner team and Hampton & Amor win at Riviera Congress

The team of Bill Gardner (Kent), Mike Bell (London), Sean Mekie & Nicholas Greer (both Manchester), and the pair of Michael Hampton & John Amor (both Kent), have claimed victory at Riviera Congress, held in Torquay on 3rd to 5th July.

In the Swiss Teams, the Gardner team (pictured left) won all seven matches. After six matches they were level with the team of Richard Lingham, Ann Slee, Ruth Edmondson & Brigid McElroy (all Devon), but they beat them in the final round - inflicting the only loss on the Lingham team - to take the title. the Lingham team finished second, ahead of the team of Robert Miller (Northants), Bill Taylor, John Dakin (both Hants & IoW) & Eddie Lucioni (Sussex).

In the Swiss Pairs, Michael and John (picture) were undefeated in all twelve matches - winning ten and drawing two - to take the title by an emphatic margin of 26 VPs. Warner Solomon & Peter Bowles (both Devon) were second, with Keith Ashcroft & Michael Prior (both Kent) in third.
