Will Roper

I’m 23 years old and have been playing bridge almost obsessively for over half my life. I learnt the game round the kitchen table with my family and was quickly hooked. Despite the drawback that an addiction to bridge provides, I have just completed an engineering degree at UCL.

I am part of the English junior squad and my previous victims include Chris Derrick, Matt Jones and Alexandra Birchall. I have competed in two Channel trophies, winning one, as well as two European junior pairs events.

My favourite events are the Spring Foursomes and the Gold Cup. This has nothing to do with the fact that I have scored -900 and -2600 in each of them. I tend to play most of my bridge at the YC, although I am also known as Bill Psyches from my online playing time on Bridge Club Live. I try to play as many congresses and KO events that I can. I have a love-hate relationship with bidding systems. I love learning and creating them. My partner's hate me for trying to foist these contraptions onto them.

Apart from bridge, although there is little else, I enjoy playing and following a multitude of different sports. I have recently started playing poker and have found it has improved my bridge game drastically.
