More games added to online schedule; Covill wins April competition

The popular online games which we hold on Funbridge - www.funbridge.com - have been expanded, with games taking place every Tuesday from 1st May. There will also be extra games on the two Bank Holidays in May - Monday 7th and Monday 28th.

The number, and size, of the prizes given in the monthly competition have been increased. From May the top 5 will win prizes, with a first prize of £30 each month.

The games are popular as you can play at any time during the day (between midnight and 10pm), stopping and starting as often as necessary. This is because you play with, and against, robots, so don't need to be online at the same time as your partner or opponents. For more details on how to play, please see our FAQ page.

April competition

April's competition has been won by Matthew Covill. His top four scores in the month averaged 67.32%. John Pemberton was second and Gordon Rainsford was third.

Understanding how your data is used in compliance with the GDPR

You may already have seen reference to the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which comes into force on 25th May 2018, either in English Bridge magazine or in the wider media. We have made a start on implementing it with information on this webpage, not only for individual members but also to help clubs and counties comply with their legal obligations.

Update: All members for whom we hold an email address were emailed with information on 27th April*. Please check your inboxes, however please note that action is only required if you wish to change your information, or how we use it.
* - a follow-up email to those to whom the original email bounced, and addresses were subsequently corrected, was sent on 18th May

The purpose of the GDPR is to provide a set of standard data protection laws across the EU, making it easier for you to understand how your data is being used and to give you greater control over its use.

The EBU undertakes to collect and use your personal data in compliance with the GDPR. Our legal basis for processing this data is our legitimate interest as a membership organisation.

We use the data for the administration of your membership, the communication of information and the organisation of events. We only share your contact details with English Bridge Education & Development (EBED) and your county of affiliation; we provide a limited amount of data for use by scoring programs to ensure that they correctly identify members.

We have a Privacy Notice which is where you can find full details of all these matters including:

  • What data we collect and what we use it for
  • Where we get it from and to whom we give it
  • What we do to ensure its security
  • How you can see what data we hold about you and limit its use
  • How you can ask for inaccuracies in data to be corrected

Your club and county will likely contact you in due course with information on their policies.
