Kent wins Tollemache Cup

Kent has won the Tollemache Cup - the inter-county teams of eight championship - claiming the trophy for the fifth time.

The team was: Patrick Collins, Helen Erichsen, Espen Erichsen, Jeremy Willans, Phil Bailey, Kay Preddy, Ian Draper, Norman Selway, Michael Hampton and Peter Law.

They finished just 1 VP ahead of Manchester, with Berks & Bucks finishing in third.

Constables, and Lancaster team, win main events at Budapest Congress

The Overseas Congress in Budapest, sponsored by Bridge Overseas, has recently concluded, with Val & Ian Constable, and the Lancaster team, winning the two main Swiss competitions.

Val & Ian (picture here) lost only once in their ten matches in the Swiss Pairs, finishing with 154 VPs. Andy Baruch & Sarah Jones were second with 129 VPs, and Lesley Bridson & Catherine Thompson were third with 125.

The Lancaster team - Nigel Lancaster, Stephen Gore, Maria Budd and Mark Westley - started the Swiss Teams slowly, losing their first three matches, but came back strongly to finish on 136 VPs from ten matches, 8 VPs ahead of the field. The team of Sue O'Hara, Nelson Stephens, Kathy Talbot & Denis Talbot were second.

The next Overseas Congress takes place in Andalucia, 8th - 14th October. There will be competitions specifically for less experienced players, so is suitable for everyone. See here for more details.

Surrey Schools Cup a great success

The annual Surrey Schools Cup took place on Friday with great success. The entry was up 60% on last year, and the venue was buzzing with enthusiastic young bridge players.

It was organised by Surrey CBA, with English Bridge Education and Development helping to run the event.

The winners of the Cup were Westminster School; the Salver was won by Hampton School; the minibridge competition was won by Weydon School.

Bridge England Sim Pairs

The Bridge England Simultaneous Pairs takes place on Tuesday and Wednesday this week and you'll be able to find all the results and commentaries at the links below. Results will be finalised, and Master Points credited, once all the results have been submitted and checked.

Proceeds from the event help to support the international teams, in particular the junior teams which will be competing in the World Youth Team Championships in China in August. For more information on supporting the squad's participation in the event, please see here.
