- 31 August 2003Over 100 young people together with 40-odd parents, grandparents and teachers, attended this year's Teach-In weekend at Loughborough University. They were all ages from 6 to about 20, with a wide range of bridge experience but all with a love of bridge in common.
The weekend comprised several teaching
sessions, with a break on Saturday afternoon for more physical
activities such as
swimming and the traditional annual rounders match. Saturday
evening featured the Grand Bridge Tournament in which everyone
participated – adults and the junior internationals
in the Top Guns group right down to the Fearless Fledglings
who had just started to learn about bidding. There was a
separate MiniBridge tournament for the Raw Rookies who had
started the weekend as absolute beginners. A new feature
this year was an optional speedball event after the tournament,
which attracted 17 tables of enthusiasts.
Pirizes were awarded to the leaders in
each of the categories for the tournament and also for
other achievements during
the weekend. England star David
