David was approved as a recipient of the Dimmie Fleming Award in the summer of 2016, and would have received it at the EBU AGM in November. He passed away on 9th September.

I joined Crockford's, then in Hertford Street, in the late 'twenties and, from time to time, would wander into a room on the top floor which overflowed with the books, the papers and the great personality of the chairman and founder of the club, Colonel H. M. Beasley. "Pops," one of the best known and most popular figrues in the world of bridge, was a brilliant player and a great psychologist.

Dr John Manning, author of the manual which has become the authoritative work on duplicate bridge movements, has died at the age of 73. Ron Budden), of Sussex, writes: 

It is with the deepest regret that we heard of the sudden death of Dr Manning who, over the past 37 years, has contributed much to English bridge and the county associations of Northamptonshire and Sussex. This was recognised in 1994 when he was presented with the EBU's Dimmie Fleming Award. 

The Under 26 competition is often called 'Juniors' by the organisers, and was previously called Under 25s; The Under 21 competition is often called 'Youngsters' and has previously been called 'Schools' and 'Under 20s'; The Under 16 competition is often called 'Kids'; the 'Under26 Women' competition has also been called 'Girls', 'Young Women' and 'Under 25 Women'. Participation in the event is dependent on qualification - usually for European teams this is through results at the preceding European Youth Team Championships.
