Richard was born in 1954 and learned to play bridge when he was 10. With the help of a county level Maths teacher his bridge improved while at school and he subsequently became one of the group of strong players at Cambridge University during the 1970s. From 1973 to 1978 he represented the country at junior level with a number of partners including Tony Forrester, with whom he also played for England at open level in 1978.
Peter Bentley, who died aged 81 on 6th February, was a stalwart of Surrey bridge for many years. He was President of the county twice and served on the committee for over thirty years with some breaks.
He was awarded the Dimmie Fleming in 2004 for services to Surrey bridge. He was also a Surrey EBU shareholder, and a regular attendee at Surrey events. He was the non-playing captain of the Tollemache team for twenty-five years. He was very pleased to achieve his goal of becoming a Grand Master in 2013.
The YCBA President, Hubert Castle, died peacefully on Thursday 20th February 2014.
He was Chairman of the YCBA from 1976 to 1990 and Chairman of Huddersfield BC for many years. Bridge was his chief hobby, closely followed by gardening and, in his younger days, tennis. He played with a series of partners including his wife Cath, to whom he was happily married for over sixty years. He leaves five grandsons and ten great-grandchildren.
He had passed his 100th birthday on 24th May last year.

The EBU Investigation and Prosecution Panel is a panel made up of volunteer EBU Members who may be called upon to serve in an official capacity to decide whether there may be a case to answer if there is a complaint under the EBU disciplinary rules and also to prosecute the case should it go ahead.
A panel will initially be asked to decide on a case referred to it whether there is a case to answer. If so one member of the panel (not necessarily one involved in the original panel) will be asked to lead the prosecution.
