The South Notts Bridge membership campaign

In 2017 four bridge clubs in South Notts – East Bridgford, Keyworth, Phoenix (Ruddington) and West Bridgford set up a joint project to run market and advertise bridge courses, and to establish supervised bridge sessions so that novices would be able to play bridge in a safe environment before migrating to full club sessions. They were supported by a £250 grant from their EBU county association.

Vida Bingham

Long before Vida played bridge, she enjoyed success as an athlete and ran against the top athletes of her day including Fanny Blankers-Koen. She never beat Fanny but has fond memories of hearing Fanny bearing down, apparently taking one stride for every two that Vida needed!

The Binghams and the Flemings became good friends and when Dimmie Fleming’s husband died, Vida assisted with the successful Flemings bridge business including running, in Portugal, one of the earliest bridge holidays.

John Godfrey

The passing of John H C Godfrey is a tragic loss to the Notts. Contract Bridge Association and to the English Bridge Union on which he served on the Rules and Ethics Committee. John was one of the original members of the Notts. Association and the extent and length of his service was of an exceptional character. 

As a bridge player he represented Notts. for many years and his demeanour at the table, both as partner and opponent, was always of the highest standard.

In his younger days he represented Notts. at hockey and latterly served on the Selection Committee.
