The Selection Committee will shortly invite applications to participate in trials for the 2026 European Team Championships.
The Open Trial will be a two stage pairs trial with a number of pairs exempt from stage one and one pair, Andrew Robson & David Gold, pre-selected for the team.
- Stage one - West Midlands Bridge Club - 10th - 12th October 2025 (two and half days, the Friday session will start in the evening)
- Stage two - Young Chelsea Bridge Club - 31st October - 2nd November 2025 (two and half days, the Friday session will start in the evening)
Pairs entering the Open Trial will be able to apply for exemption from the Stage one trial.
The winning pair from the Stage two trial will be selected to play in the European Championships together with the pre-selected pair and a third pair will be selected by the Selection Committee in consultation with these two pairs from the remaining participants in the Stage two trial.
The Mixed Trial will be a two stage teams of up to six players trial. There will be a round robin to determine the teams qualifying for the second stage.
- Stage one - East Midlands Bridge Academy - 2nd - 4th January 2026 (two and a half days, the Friday session will start in the evening)
- Stage two - Oxford Bridge Club - 16th - 18th January 2026 (two and a half days, the Friday session will start in the evening)
The Women's Trial will be a teams of up to six players trial. Depending on entries the trial will be scheduled for two, two and half or three days. If the trial is two and half days, the Friday session will start in the evening.
- Young Chelsea Bridge Club - 20th - 22nd February 2026
The Seniors’ Trial will be a teams of up to six players trial. Depending on entries the trial will be scheduled for two, two and half or three days. If the trial is two and half days, the Friday session will start in the evening.
- West Midlands Bridge Club - 13th - 15th March 2026
For the Mixed, Women’s and Seniors’ Trials, the winning team will be selected to play in the European Championships, however, if the winning team consists of fewer than 6 players, the Selection Committee will consult with the winning team to select additional players to make up a team of 6 to play in the European Championships.
Closing dates for entries and session times will be confirmed shortly. Closing dates will be set so that unsuccessful participants in earlier trials will be able to enter subsequent Trials if eligible but with players that qualify for an earlier series being ineligible to play in subsequent trials.
Please note that the Selection Committee reserves the right to pre-select one or more pairs for the European Championships based on any outstanding performances in major events prior to the 15th September 2025 and therefore if necessary to amend or cancel the trials process for any series.
