In a photo finish, England win the Camrose on the last few boards!
Congratulations to Graham Osborne, Frances Hinden, Neil Rosen, John Atthey, Chris Jagger & Derek Patterson, with NPC: Michael Byrne
After the first weekend England were lying a disappointing 3rd place despite having won four of our five matches. For the second and final weekend, the team again won four of their five matches, including beating leaders Ireland to overtake them and win by a narrow margin.
On the final board England went two down in 3NT when Northern Ireland found the right lead and cashed the diamond suit.
No need to worry! At the other table England doubled 3NT and found an excellent defence to beat it four tricks for 1100 and 14 Imps to the good.
Ireland also had a swing on the previous board, losing 500 at one table and 3NT at the other, for 15 Imps away.
The final table:
England | 127.76 |
Ireland | 121.56 |
Scotland | 109.45 |
Wales | 97.71 |
NIBU | 79.87 |
Northern Ireland | 58.65 |
At the final banquet, everyone praised the friendliness of the event, the competitive spirit and the great hospitality of the Northern Irish.
