National Junior Pairs Championships

The inaugural National Junior Pairs Championship took place on 12th April 2025 at the Oxford Bridge Club. Directed by Charles Bucknell and organised under the auspices of the English Bridge Education and Development, the event welcomed players across five age categories: Under 26, Under 21, Under 18, Under 16, and Under 14. A number of the players from the England squads entered the event, but, for many, it was their first experience of national-level play.

Oxford Bridge Club provided a perfect setting — warm, welcoming, and well-equipped to support such a tournament with its beautifully designed, light and spacious playing hall. Volunteers, parents, and coaches contributed to the success of the day, helping to foster a sense of community around the growing junior game.

Charles Bucknell, squad leader for the England U21 team, noted the high standard of play and sportsmanship on display. “It’s been a joy to see so many young people playing serious bridge and enjoying themselves,” he said. “This championship is a big step forward for junior bridge in England.”

With overwhelmingly positive feedback, the National Junior Pairs looks set to become a cornerstone of the junior bridge calendar for years to come.
