Doris Lady Rhodes

1898 - 1982

By Terence Reese.

Doris Rhodes has died at the age of 83. She had not been well for some years. She played for Britain against America in the 1933 Schwab Cup and became Culbertson's chief representative. My mother obtained a Teacher's Certificate from her and they became great friends.

Playing mostly with Rixi, Doris played in several European Women's Championships, winning in 1951 and 1952, and in the 1960 Olympiad' Doris was handsome and charming. There are not many like her these days. Her (adopted) daughter, Anne, is married to Claude Rodrigue.
