Michael Hornung

I started playing Bridge aged 11 and at secondary school was lucky enough to partner Tom Townsend and to be taught Physics (and advanced bridge concepts) by Mike Gold (father of David).

I continued playing whilst at Cambridge University and Guildford College of Law but after qualifying as a Solicitor and working as a corporate finance advisor in the City began to play less frequently.

Leaving the City in 2001, I co-founded a range of technology and pharmaceutical start-up companies which together with marriage and two children meant there was little time for playing bridge and only played the occasional game for almost 20 years.

By 2018 with the family now relocated to Dorset and in semi-retirement, I started playing regularly again at the Allendale Bridge Club in Wimborne and took over as Treasurer for the Dorset County Association in 2019,  just in time to become involved in helping Dorset players to move online during the pandemic.

I am a firm believer that in order to grow bridge again in this country we need to cater for both FTF and online players with a particular emphasis on marketing and promoting the game to young players.
