Philip Broke was given the Gold Award, the top award conferred by the EBU, in 1992. He was then an EBU vice-president and was recognised for his outstanding contribution to bridge and to the EBU.
English Bridge wrote of his award: "Philip has been involved in the administration of the game for a great many years and has been a member of the EBU board and tournament committee. In the 1950s he was instrumental in the introduction of the Master Points scheme which has become a feature of bridge throughout the country. Until recently he was also a senior tournament director."
