Rhona Goldenfield

I was born in Manchester in 1943 and am the middle of 3 Sisters. I started playing bridge in 1966 and played socially until 1975 when I married Bernard

My most exciting win was the very first pairs I ever entered partnering Bernard at the Blackpool Congress in 1975.

I was fortunate to have 44 happy years playing with Bernard until he passed away in 2019.

Together with Michelle Brunner and John Holland we won the Bronze Medal in the Common Market Mixed Teams in Portugal.

I was very fortunate to partner Michelle in Womens Internationals. Michelle was a very fine player and a lovely partner and friend.

Von Arnim led her singleton club against four hearts and Auken took her ace and switched to the . Goldenfield won in hand with the king, ruffed a spade in dummy and then ruffed a club with the . Three rounds of trumps followed and the defence could win and cash a spade, but declarer's losing diamond went away on dummy's , so England scored +620.

Dhondy also led her club, but Smith returned the suit at trick two and Dhondy ruffed when Gromann discarded a diamond. Her diamond switch was won in hand by declarer who continued by ruffing a spade in dummy. She then discarded her remaining spade on the a as Dhondy ruffed again. However, there was still a trump trick to lose, so declarer was one down for +100 and 12 IMPs to England, who now led 25-0.
