Tommy Brass

Tommy was first taught how to play bridge by his father but developed his ability from the age of 13 at Reading School, which had an active and enthusiastic bridge club. Reading School had many talented older students and teachers who helped him to improve, and introduced him to the U20 squad.

Three years later, in 2009, he represented England for the first time and then went on to come 7th in the European Youngsters Pairs and 4th in the European Youth Teams, partnering Alex Roberts. The two of them were subsequently awarded the 'Young Pair of the Year' award for 2010.

After finishing school he went to study Chemical Engineering at the University of Cambridge. There he captained the University Bridge team in 2013-14, which won the Portland Bowl and Varsity match against Oxford. He also enjoyed teaching a weekly class for beginners at the university bridge society. During this time he played with Kyle Lam at university and in the European Youth Teams in 2013. After graduating in 2015, he is going into the Oil and Gas industry to work as a Process Engineer.

Since University Tommy and Chris Derrick have been developing a bridge system allowing them to pre-empt as often as possible and won a fair few IMPs at the 2015 Youth Paris Open because of it! He also regularly partners India Leeming as they work together to improve their bridge.

In his spare time he enjoys running, mountain walks, cycling up steep hills, board games and poker.
