Nettleham Bridge Club Charity Day

One of the first clubs to sign up to join the Bridge - It's a Big Deal! Festival was Nettleham Bridge Club in Lincolnshire. Nettleham Bridge Club held a sellout charity day, which attracted a series of articles in the village magazine and donations from local firms. Another Lincolnshire club, Falconer Bridge Club held a very well attended coffee morning on Friday. Below is a round up of the events:

It’s a SUCCESS, should be the overall verdict of the BIABD initiative. Hopefully, as reports from us little clubs in Lincoln and around the counties, roll in, in waves as the week goes by, the swell of support for Bridge will be shown as STRONG.

A two-fold success was the result of Nettleham Bridge Club’s Charity Day on 2nd September. The twin aims to raise funds for Cancer Research and extoll the delights of playing bridge in our club were achieved, as these photos show:

We dared to dream up a target to raise £600 and provisional figures show we succeeded that by over £100. Plus, our list of names for the Beginners lessons starting the end of this month is growing.

To quote the Beatles, ‘We need a bit of help from our friends’ and we received a great deal.

Grateful thanks are due to the Parish Council who facilitated our choice of date and location, Flowers by Design who supplied splendid 1st prizes, Plant Plot caterers, who indeed worked wonders, the Co-op, who we will remember while munching our biscuits at future bridge sessions, and from Brooks & Mayo and all others who donated raffle prizes.

Nothing is achieved without effort, and our committee had great support from the collective efforts of our members and volunteers, plus Jean Carter, Cllr John Barrett and his wife Sue who trebled up the kitchen duty staff, serving at tables and washing up mounds and mounds of dishes!
