On Friday 12th July last a good turnout of past and present members of the Douglas Bridge Club (Isle of Man) assembled to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the founding of the club. After a splendid lunch at the Peel Golf Club, the celebrants sat down to an afternoon of non-serious party bridge - a good natured round-off to a memorable party.
There were no survivors from the founding days of 1956, but there were a number of past members, most notably Judy Jeavons and Flora Simons, still on good form and showing some of the newer members how to play the cards. There was one moment of continuity, however, when President of the Club, Angie Kissack, presented the prizes in the raffle. Angie’s parents, John and Elaine Clague had been founder members and had both served in a number of committee positions in the early years.
Mementoes were given to all who attended what was an event well organised by the Club Committee, with Alex Carine, Liz Kelly and Gordon Munday doing most of the heavy lifting. Particular thanks were due to them.
A Good Day and only 5 more years until the 75th!
