Many happy returns to longstanding member of Cheltenham Bridge Club, Anne Haussherr, who celebrated her 100th birthday on 3rd August.
On Saturday, 8th August, Anne met with 31 friends old and new at Cheltenham Bridge Club, and played 2 hours of a very friendly, but still competitive game of bridge. As part of the celebrations, club member Moya Jackson, devised a game of "Two of Trumps Pass the Parcel" (see below) which saw people making bold decisions with their bidding. Winning the game seemed less important than stealing the prize from each other! There was a lot of fun and laughter in the room. Anne wasn’t distracted at all by the shouts of “2 of trumps” and came top! Congratulations to Doug Evans who was holding the prize as the last boards were played.
Anne thanked everyone for the gifts and cards, Patrick Shields for directing and Phoenix for the beautiful cakes. Yes, the playing cards decorating the cakes were edible! In the photos above, you can see Anne with her older friends Daphne Smith and Rosiah Gates, and her newer friends, the club’s youngest members, Maegan and Daniel. Megan and Daniel play regularly with Anne, in the club’s gentle sessions during school holidays and also attend all the bridge camps!
Two of Trumps Pass the Parcel: The spot prize at this event went to whoever won a trick with the two of the trump suit. They held the prize until someone else achieved the same and when that happened the prize was passed on to this person. The person who was the last to claim the prize is the person who took the prize home.
