Is it a home or a Bridge Club?

As part of the Bridge - It's a Big Deal! Festival of bridge, Janet Marsh ran a very successful bridge lunch at her home in Bedfordshire. Below is a short write-up from the day:

Janet Marsh embraced the idea of BIABD when approached by the Bedfordshire County Competitions Secretary to host a session in our home. Not just because of the years of pleasure we have received from competing in Bridge but also because it would support Cancer UK a charity which is close to our hearts.

The proposed event was to be the contribution from Milton Keynes Bridge Club to the festival of Bridge. As MKBC in now a totally on-line club, a home venue was the obvious choice.

Janet decided the event would be a lunch and Bridge event and set about inviting players of all levels and abilities irrespective of EBU membership or not. She planned a two-course modest lunch to be followed by a Bridge session. A minimum donation of £20 a head was asked for.

We had to pull tables, bridge cloths, bidding boxes, BridgeMates and scoring laptops out of storage and try to remember how to use them all as per pre-lockdown.

The modest lunch took two days to prepare and was excellent, much more than people expected. The furniture shifting took a day to prepare and a day to restore.

Now for the good bit. While many members were not able to attend on the Sunday the level of donations despite that was as stunning as the meal and the event raised £1,230 for Cancer UK.

The winners were a scratch pairing of Stewart Pye and Edith Mickleburgh.
