Malta Overseas Congress

Submitted by English Bridge Union on

The first overseas congress sponsored by our new travel partners, First for Bridge, finally took place this month. Held in Qawra, Malta, the congress was originally planned for spring 2021, but delayed due to Covid.

Cath Fox, one of the lucky people to attend the congress has written a short recap of the event:

One of the rare hotels that when it said “all inclusive”, really was “ALL inclusive” including wine, beer, spirits and cocktails. The EBU Overseas Congress in Malta included speciality food, more alcohol that you could drink and inclusive excursions.

The above pictures are from our excursion to Valetta.

There was a mixed bag of people in attendance, with most being regular congress players. But we also had a Polish team testing their new system before the European Championships and a brave lawyer attending his first congress on his own after just six months of playing Club Bridge. He vows to return for the Turkey Congress after having such a great time and learning a huge amount from the friendly regulars.

Although the Poles won most of the prizes they showed excellent sportsmanship by splitting their team to play in the Swiss Teams with two other pairs including our brave lawyer.

All in all, a great return to Face to Face Overseas!

There are two more overseas congresses taking place this year. The next will be the EBU's first ever River Cruise, with 6 nights spent taking in the lovely sights of Holland and Belgium, starting on the 29th May. Then in October there will be an overseas congress in the beautiful city of Side, Turkey.

If you are interested in joining either of the upcoming congresses, more information can be found here:
