There’s lots to do in and around Side. Today, three of the players took a guided tour to visit the impressive remains of the Roman town of Perge (above left) and then on to the amphitheatre at Aspendos (above right). Pictures from Tony Hall. The places are a must for anyone with an interest in ancient history and archaeology. As well as the ancient cities, they visited a waterfall and had lunch out. What a splendid way to spend the day.

Others went out for lunch in Side, or visited the nearby Outlet shopping centre, or simply enjoyed the swimming at the beach or pool. One guest (described as the resident Adonis) visited a Turkish barber for a haircut and wet shave, accompanied by removal of nasal and ear hair by waxing – a very painful experience.

So, after a relaxing morning, we were back to bridge in the afternoon and evening. There were 14½ tables for the Open Pairs in the afternoon, won by Sue and Paul Debling. In the evening the IMPs Pairs was won by Debbie Sandford and Gad Chadha. Again, you can find all the results on the EBU website

Lots of our players have other talents – one of the waiters presented us with a posy of flowers, which led to this watercolour painted by Jan Newcomb.

There was a unusual auction on one hand. East passed, South opened 1H, West doubled and North redoubled. East now bid 1H! (“I didn’t see the opening bid” he said.) South generously made things simple by accepting the insufficient bid then passing and North/South eventually bid to 4S.
