To celebrate its 75th anniversary, Wearside Bridge Club held a series of special events to coincide with the EBU's  'Bridge - It's a Big Deal!' initiative, and to raise funds for Cancer Research UK, the nominated charity.

The events were:

  • Pivot teams, where players played an equal number of boards with each of their teammates.
  • An Individual event, which attracted 37 competitors.
  • An Online Swiss Pairs.
  • A Handicap Pairs which followed the anniversary party.

Rosemary Wallace had the remarkable distinction of winning 3 of the 4 events, playing with a total of 16 different partners!! Fortunately for the other players, she was unable to compete in the 4th event, and the Online Swiss Pairs was won by Pat Barton and Alleyn Erskine.

The total amount raised for Cancer Research UK during the week was £1,098. This has been added to the national total, which currently stands at £68,145.33 (+ £4,561.55 Gift Aid).
