In September, Cheddar Bridge Club celebrated their Golden jubilee, last month their sister club Wedmore also celebrated their golden jubilee. Below, Club Secretary Geoff Davies recounts the details:

At the beginning  of 2023 the two clubs amalgamated to become the Cheddar & Wedmore Bridge Club and in the process of researching the history of the individual clubs we discovered that both have been in existence for at least 50 years, hence the Jubilee celebrations. We were lucky to have a founding member of the original Wedmore Bridge Club, Suzanne Metters, attend the celebrations.

The jubilee event took the form of a hot meal of beef or chicken followed by an evening of duplicate bridge. Steve, our chairman, skillfully arranged the tables so that they would not only seat 48 people in the limited space available but could also be easily and rapidly converted into the 12 bridge tables required. You can read a full report on the club website, along with a history of the original rubber bridge club.
