On Wednesday 13th August 95 members and friends attended a celebratory dinner at Rockcliff Rugby Club, Whitley Bay to mark the 80th anniversary of the founding of Whitley Bay Bridge Club.

On a gloriously balmy evening canapés and champagne on the terrace preceded a three-course dinner in a spectacularly decorated clubhouse. The centrepiece of each table was one of the club’s silver trophies festooned with balloons.

The principal guest was Marion Curran the Chairman of NEBA. Marion began her Bridge career at Whitley Bay Bridge Club. Accompanying her were Sue Davies immediate Past Chairman of NEBA and Graham Cox Vice Chairman of NEBA. Both Marion and Sue gave entertaining after-dinner speeches.

The evening was a fit celebration for a club established in a founder member’s home during Post War Britain. Whitley Bay and Tynemouth Bridge Club is now a flourishing club holding 6 sessions each week.
