Nineteen enthusiastic children signed up to the Bridge Holiday Club at Mid-Essex Bridge Club located in Barleylands Farm near Billericay in Essex. It ran every Thursday through the 2021 Summer holidays.
Children ranged in age from 8 years to 17 and had never played before. Despite family holidays a minimum of three tables played every week. The younger ones played table football in the breaks; the older ones relaxed their minds by playing chess.
One nine year old when questioned said it was the best thing he’d ever done! Nothing could have improved the experience.
We were lucky to have some great volunteers including two retired maths teachers. Joan Bennet, the EBED representative for Youth, joined us on 19th August with her little dog in tow causing great excitement with the younger players.
