We are sorry to announce the death of Mr Denis Robson on 10th March 2024 after a long period in a rest home. Mr Robson was a self-confessed bridge addict since being introduced to the game as a young boy. A regular in the Lancashire county side, twice a Gold Cup finalist and with an England international cap to his name, he was a worthy Grand Master. An accountant by profession, he was Thwaites brewery chairman for three years, having joined the Daniel Thwaites board of directors in 1980. Denis was Chairman of the EBU from 2002-6. He married Val in 1959, they had five children Alison, Jacqui, Nicole, Robert and John. After giving up bridge at the top level he played with Val in local events. When Val died in 2021 Denis returned to his roots living in a nursing home in Sunderland.
