Dear EBU member

The coming weeks and months are always full of events for all standards of players, and this year is no exception. We have a range of competitions suitable for congress newcomers or 'lower ranked' players, and some of these are highlighted below. Specifically for 'higher ranked' players there's the Spring Foursomes, which always attracts a strong field is on the horizon. With regional events, and the Easter Festivals, there really is something for everyone - we hope there's something which takes your fancy.

Competitions for congress newcomers or 'lower ranked' players

The coming months have a number of competitions aimed at congress newcomers or 'lower ranked' players. 

The Jack High Swiss Pairs at the Easter Festival in London - for players Jack or below on the NGS (see below).
The Improvers Pairs and Improvers Teams at the Northern Easter Festival (see below for details).
The Really Easy Spring Break in Wroxton - a relaxed, residential weekend of bridge near Banbury on 5th - 7th April. See here for details. 

Entries open for Hubert Phillips Bowl and Gerard Faulkner Salver

Entries are now being taken for the Knockout Mixed Pivot Teams - the Hubert Phillips Bowl - and the Seniors Knockout Teams - the Gerard Faulkner Salver. The closing date for entries for the former is 15th April, and for the latter is 17th June. Please enter online through My EBU, or by phone or email to the Competitions Department.

The Schapiro Spring Foursomes

A return to Stratford for the Schapiro Spring Foursomes the venue name has changed but it is the same venue as has been used in previous years.  
Entries are coming in - you can see the current entry list here. Don't delay and add your name to list soon.

The National Mixed Pairs championship held at various venues around the country and scored across all venues. It is played over two sessions, and Green Points are awarded.

Really Easy Weekend
5th - 7th April 
Wroxton House Hotel, Near Banbury

The Really Easy Weekends take place at various times throughout the year. The next event is to be held at Wroxton House Hotel, near Banbury.

These 'House party' style events, are designed for novice players of up to approximately 5 years experience. Players are probably below the rank of Master and lower than a Jack on the NGS scale. These weekends are strictly limited to 10 tables.

There are bridge sessions each day. These are mostly normal pairs sessions, and on Sunday we will play a Swiss Pairs competition. There will be a seminar, with hands to play, on Saturday morning, and on Friday afternoon we will discuss the hands we have played in earlier sessions.

Easter Festival, London
19th - 22nd April

The London Easter Festival is back with a full program of events including Championship Pairs, Swiss Pairs, Jack High Swiss Pairs and Swiss Teams. This year sees a new venue for 2019, the ILEC Conference Centre near Earls Court.

Spend your Easter weekend in the capital. The congress is suitable for everyone, with a range of competitions for all abilities. There is a new Championship Pairs format for 2019. The Championship is a stratified event scored across the field. Each pair will play in five sessions of 18 boards - making a total of 90 boards, an increase on previous years at no extra cost.

Green points are awarded to the top of half of the field for the Championship Pairs. The remaining events are fully green pointed.

Northern Easter Festival
19th - 21st April, Ilkley

A 'northern alternative' for those wanting an Easter weekend of bridge. The Northern Easter Festival will take place at the Craiglands Hotel, Ilkley. 

The full program of events includes Swiss Pairs, Swiss Teams, Mixed & Open Pairs, Improvers Pairs, and Improvers Teams.

The Improvers Pairs and Teams are separate, more relaxed competitions, alongside the main congress event, and aimed at less experienced players.

The Swiss events are fully Green Pointed; the Mixed and Open Pairs award Blue Points.

National Swiss Teams Congress
11th - 12th May, Solihull

Formerly part of the National Teams Congress, the Swiss Teams competition is now its own congress, with fourteen matches across the two days.

The event is being run by Warwickshire CBA on behalf of the EBU. Please enter with WCBA directly. More details and an entry form can be found on their website -www.nationalswissteams.co.uk.

Spring Bank Holiday Congress
25th - 27th May
Crowne Plaza, Stratford upon Avon

A relaxed congress held in Shakespeare's home town over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Saturday & Sunday - Championship Pairs
Sunday - Swiss Pairs (for non-qualifiers in the Championship Pairs, and new entrants)
Monday - Stratified Swiss Teams

Sicily Congress
8th - 14th October 2019
Atahotel, Naxos Beach

Join us for some autumn sunshine on the Italian island of Sicily.

It will be held at the Atahotel Naxos Beach, a coastal resort in a stunning location in the shadow of Mount Etna.
